NEW: HARMONY AND SONGS WORKSHOP
Sundays 11:00 am – 1:00 pm (Note the new dates and times)
November 5, 12, December 3, 10, 17
What are your harmonic and melodic options? Everyone wants to know!
Find answers in a workshop environment using your own works-in-progress, short exercises, and familiar popular songs.
In this unique class, we’ll also practice turning musical ideas into a written form — a great way to see your own work from a different perspective and improve the way you communicate with other musicians.
Not a songwriter? No problem, but a grasp of basic music theory is recommended; for example, the Basic Theory 1 Workshop or One-Day Intensive. You do not need to use music software to participate in this workshop.
BASIC MUSIC THEORY 1
(Formerly, Basic Theory 1)
Thursdays 6:30-8:30 pm
November 9, 16, 30, December 7, 14
Personal Check: If your payment will arrive at least 24 hours before the first day of class, email email@example.com.
(Basic Theory 1 students are invited to repeat the class once — for free — within 1 year.)
This 5-week workshop covers basic music theory from scratch. It’s perfect for total beginners as well as those who want to fill in gaps their knowledge. Reading, writing, using music notation, keys, basic harmony, rhythmic notation, etc. Students who take this class find that music theory is not the confusing, scary, creativity killer they always thought it was. It’s fun and useful.
Created with singers and songwriters in mind, this class also includes some basic lead-sheet and chart writing techniques and ways to communicate with other musicians.
BASIC MUSIC THEORY 2
Bleecker and Bowery, NYC near the 6, N & R trains.
Personal Check: If your payment will arrive at least 24 hours before the first day of class, email firstname.lastname@example.org.(Basic Theory 2 students are invited to repeat the class once — for free — if taken within 1 year.)
This 5-week workshop is a continuation of Basic Theory 1. Continue to improve your transcription and notation skills. Work more with keys and harmonizing melodies. More basic chart writing and “Real World Assignments!” If you haven’t taken Basic Theory 1, but are interested in Basic Theory 2, please email email@example.com or call 212-330-8980 before registering.
Monthly on Sundays. Busy schedules can make it difficult to commit to a 5-week workshop. This class will cover material from the Basic Music Theory 1 workshop including reading, notating and using basic music notation (notes and rhythm), Major Keys and Basic Harmony. The one-day workshop is also a good way to figure out if you’d like to try a 5-week workshop.
